Twinning
Following the attempted full-scale invasion of Ukraine by the Russians, and the continuing war, the Ukrainian HE sector is under very significant pressure. Universities in the towns and cities that have been attacked have suffered significant damage, and both students and staff have been displaced. Many of the Ukrainian male students and academics have stayed in Ukraine to fight, and many of the female and international students and female academics have either moved to the west of Ukraine or have left the country altogether, and are now in other European nations. Willing to help Ukrainian HE sector, CCG alongside Universities UK have come up with the model called Twinning which allows international partners to offer tailored support to each Ukrainian university.
The concept is simple: CCG match a Ukrainian university to an international partner of a similar size and profile and facilitates the discussion between the institutions. Partner universities will have a better understanding of the needs and challenges faced by a particular Ukrainian university and will be able to provide the necessary support, targeted and requested.
Such support may include, but is not limited to, the following:
Organisation of mobility programmes for students and academic staff;
Organisation of free access to databases and/or online credit-bearing courses, which will be further recognized by the UA university;
Access to scientific libraries and repositories;
Scholarships for short-term postgraduate research;
Education quality assurance for the period of restoration of the education system;
Fundraising or creation of a fund for the restoration of the Ukrainian HEI and/or meeting certain targeted needs;
Cultural and informational, scientific events among students;
Creation of a partnership for research collaboration.
This list is not exhaustive. Ukrainian universities are able to communicate areas in which they feel they need support from the partner institution. We believe that this will help deepen the internationalisation of both International and Ukrainian higher education institutions and help mitigate the crisis.
